Westinghouse Chest freezer - The lid is difficult to open
Issue
The lid is difficult to open
Applies to
- Chest Freezer
Solution
It is normal for the lid to be difficult to open just after you have closed it.
When you open the lid warm air enters the freezer and mixes with the cold air in the freezer, after the lid is closed again the pressure inside the freezer decreases, creating a vacuum effect, making the lid hard to open.
The pressure will equalise and allow the lid to be opened normally.
Depending on the size of your freezer, how full your freezer is, the time for the pressure to equalise can vary.
If you need to access your freezer more frequently and cannot wait for the pressure to equalise, using the ice scraper supplied, gently force the scraper between the seal and the top of the freezer, then rotate the scraper down to lift the seal, you should hear air being drawn into the freezer.
The lid will now open with ease
