Ice maker is not making enough ice.

Issue

Ice maker is not making enough ice.

Applies to

  • Refrigeration
  • Refrigeration French Door
  • Refrigeration Quad Door
  • All ice and water models

Solution

Understanding operation of ice maker

  • The ice maker will produce approximately 1 kg of ice every 24 hours.
  • 2kg in 32-42 hours
  • First harvest of 8 cubes can take 5 hours from start up
  • Operating pressure is 30 psi to 100 psi or 210kpa to 700kpa

Potential Cause

  • The water filter may be clogged/ restricted with foreign material.
    • check replacement date and replace if needed
  • The water supply line is kinked tap not open fully.
    • check line for kinks and tap connection is fully open
  • Water pressure is extremely low. Cut-off and cut-on pressures are too low (well systems only).
    • is a pressure limiter fitted, how is water pressure in other areas of house
  • Reverse osmosis system is in regenerative phase. or external filter in use reducing water supply

Common Solution

  • If water dispenses slower than normal, or if the filter is six months old or older, it should be replaced.
  • Ensure that the supply line does not kink when the refrigerator is pushed into place against the wall.
  • Have someone turn up the cut-off and cut-on pressure on the water pump system (well systems only).
  • It is normal for a reverse osmosis system to be below 137 kPa (20 psi) during the regenerative phase.
  • have a plumber check water pressure and water supply
