Issue
New Safety Standard: Two‑Step Start Requirement Two-Step start effective as mandatory for product manufactured from 1 July 2026.
Applies to
- Front Load Washer
- Front Load Washer Dryer
Solution
Standards Australia and Energy Safety New Zealand have introduced an updated safety standard requiring all new washing machines to incorporate a two‑step start mechanism as mandatory from 1 July 2026, ensuring users perform two deliberate actions before a cycle can begin.
This change is designed to prevent accidental activation by children, following several tragic incidents around the world. As a result, the revised standard strengthens appliance safety and sets a new benchmark aimed at reducing household risks and enhancing child protection.
Electrolux Update
The UltimateCare3 range has been enhanced to align with the latest standards. These updated models are easily recognisable by the "S" at the end of their model numbers.
While maintaining the features of the original UltimateCare3 range, the updated versions now include the 2-step start process to comply with the AS/NZS 60335.2.7:2020 Amd 1:2024 standard.
