Error Code E50 - Top Loader Washing Machine (Westinghouse)

Issue

Error Code E50

Machine will not spin, complete load cycle.

Applies to

  • Top Load Washing Machine

Solution

When the washing machine detects a problem that requires your attention, you will be alerted. The machine will warn you of this problem by displaying a fault code in the digital display, accompanied by “Beeping”.

Error Code E50 - Motor system problems

Possible causes

1. Overdosing with detergent – causing excessive soap suds

2. Overload condition

3. Motor defective

4. Motor Wiring or Motor Control board defective

1.Detergents

You must use a ‘low sudsing’ detergent designed for front load washing machines or high efficiency top loaders, such as Cold Power for Front Loaders and High Efficiency Top Loaders or detergents labelled “Matic”.

Don’t use soap-based products in your washing machine.

Don’t use too much detergent. This can result in excessive suds that can cause low spin speeds, poor rinsing and overloading the motor during spin stages of the wash program.

Quantity of detergent to be used

The type and quantity of detergent will depend on the type of fabric, load size, degree of soiling and hardness of the water used.

Follow the product manufacturers’ instructions on quantities to use.

Not enough washing powder causes: the wash load to turn grey, greasy clothes.

Too much washing powder causes: excessive sudsing, reduced washing effect, inadequate rinsing.

Use less detergent if: you are washing a small load, the laundry is lightly soiled, and large amounts of foam form during washing.

Resolution

  • Turn the machine off and leave for some time to allow the motor to cool.
  • Remove the laundry from the machine.
  • Select Machine Clean cycle. Suggest checking after the initial filling to see how much accumulated soap suds can been seen in the water, if excessive then you may need to run 2 consecutive machine clean cycles to ensure all excess detergents are rinsed away.

2.Loading

Clothes Load depends on the Water level selected. For the best washing result, do not exceed the load weight over the suggestion as in the table below.

When a washing machine is overloaded, the motor must work harder to spin the drum, potentially causing it to overheat and potentially fail. This can manifest as a motor fault error code, or the machine may simply stop working.

Maximum capacity depends on the model of the Washing Machine. The maximum capacity of the machine is printed on the control panel.

Resolution:

  • Turn the machine off and leave for some time to allow the motor to cool.
  • Reduce the load size if it exceeds the max load size.
  • Select spin cycle to spin the load again.

If the machine displays the error code again, switch off the machine and turn off the power at the isolating switch.
